Mobile Phone Internet
Haven't you ever been awed that we can now get data from the Net via a cellphone? Thus, even if one is travelling, via the mobile phone Internet, one could have sports news results, check the lotteries, and whatnot. Naturally, one has to have a WAP-enabled mobile phone to have a mobile phone Internet.
How the mobile phone Internet runs
A major cell phone system carrier has the EDGE network. One could then install mobile versions of the Gmail and the Google Maps. For all intents and purposes, we could now use our Blackberries as wireless modems, and this has benefits regarding the use of mobile phone Internet.
A regular wireless Net could be had only in certain places, the mobile phone Internet capability could be everywhere. One should have his/her laptop linked to Bluetooth (more of this later), and the whole procedure would happen - all without the wires. It is not even necessary for the mobile phone Internet to be out of the bag or suit's pocket. Take note, if the laptop does not have Bluetooth connectivity, the USB cable would serve its purpose so that a person can have mobile phone Internet.
A word of caution though, the speeds would not be stable all of the time. The mobile phone internet is OK if all you need is to check the email at the airport's cafeteria. However, do not expect to get serious uninterrupted work done every time you do it.
Mobile phone internet and Bluetooth
If there are no other recourse, individuals on the move could use Bluetooth-enabled mobile sets as modems to have mobile phone Internet connection. The good thing about using Bluetooth is this - the phone could remain inside the case. Bluetooth does not mandate direct-sight connections.
Connecting to the mobile phone Internet
The procedure: switch on the mobile phone Internet, then activate the Bluetooth software to be used. For Windows XP, go to "MY Bluetooth Places", then choose "Devices in Range". When you see the icon for the Mobile Phone Internet, right click, then go to Discover Available services. Right click on the dial up networking, this would link up the mobile phone Internet. On the phone, you would be asked if you would accept the connection or not, or "add to pair"? When the mobile phone Internet and the computer have been paired, enter the PIN code. This PIN has to be inputted to the mobile phone Internet. You would see a box, put in the password, username and the contact number of the ISP concerned.
Here is one tip: the pairing of the laptop and the mobile phone Internet would guarantee that the connection could be put up when required, one need not go through the whole procedure all over again.
